CW to air election coverage on November 5, replaces NXT

Per TV Button Pusher, The CW announced this evening that it will air election coverage the night of Tuesday, November 5, preempting its regularly scheduled WWE NXT program. The report further indicates that the CW election airing will be a simulcast of coverage from the NewsNation cable channel.

Nexstar owns both NewsNation and a majority share of The CW network, leading to the obvious synergy for the simulcast. While The CW did simulcast a Republican primary presidential debate, the decision to air election night coverage stands in contrast with previous CW decisions not to simulcast any of the general election debates.

WWE canceled its previously scheduled November 5 taping of NXT last week as first reported by Fightful Select. It was not yet known at the time though why the taping had been canceled with most speculation pointing to the WWE’s upcoming Saudi tour. Tonight’s announcement from The CW apparently provided a different answer to that question.
