An Excessive Heat Watch remains in effect from 11 am to 8 pm Friday, August 2, 2024 including the following Washington, DC region jurisdictions.

VIRGINIA: Caroline, Westmoreland.

* WHAT…For the Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 108 expected. For the Excessive Heat Watch, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 111 possible.

* WHERE…Portions of northeast North Carolina and central, east central, eastern, north central, south central, and southeast Virginia.

* WHEN…For the Heat Advisory, from 11 AM this morning to 8 PM EDT this evening. For the Excessive Heat Watch, from Friday morning through Friday evening.

* IMPACTS…Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
