An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect Wednesday, January 22 to 7 am Thursday, January 23, 2025 including the following jurisdictions.
MARYLAND: Garrett, western Allegany.
VIRGINIA: Highland, northern/central Blue Ridge.
WEST VIRGINIA: western Grant, western Mineral, Pendleton.

…EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST THURSDAY…
WHAT…Dangerously cold wind chill temperatures as low as 20 to 25 degrees below zero expected.
WHERE…In Maryland, Garrett and Extreme Western Allegany Counties. In Virginia, Western Highland and Eastern Highland Counties, and Northern Virginia Blue Ridge and Central Virginia Blue Ridge. In West Virginia, Western Grant, Western Mineral, Western Pendleton and Eastern Pendleton Counties.
WHEN…Until 10 AM EST Thursday.
IMPACTS…Frostbite and hypothermia are likely if exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS…The coldest wind chill temperatures were earlier this morning.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Wear protective clothing such as a hat, facemask and heavy gloves or mittens if you have plans to be outdoors. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be
wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
