The Virginia Cavaliers remained in third place this week entering conference tournament play in the college field hockey coaches poll while Maryland Terrapins moved back up two spots to fifth place, both teams coming off victories in their respective regular season finales.
Virginia won at Wake Forest 2-1 in double overtime last Friday to finish its regular season 13-3 overall with a 6-2 record in the ACC while Maryland won 4-1 the same day at then #17 Penn State to finish 12-5 in the regular season including its own 6-2 mark in Big Ten conference play.
Both teams move on this week to conference tournament competition with Virginia as the #4 ACC seed opening play this Tuesday in Winston-Salem, NC in a quarterfinal matchup against #5 seed Syracuse while Maryland opens Big Ten tournament play Thursday in College Park, MD as the #2 seed, matched against #7 seed Iowa in the quarterfinal round.
