The Virginia Cavaliers and Maryland Terrapins each fell off in the women’s college field hockey coaches poll this week with Virginia dropping one place to fourth after an upset loss while Maryland fell two places to 8th place in the poll rankings, again despite winning twice on the week.
Virginia took only its second defeat of the season, falling at home to then #8 Saint Joseph’s, 5-2, last Sunday in the Cavaliers final scheduled non-conference game of 2024. Maryland meanwhile defeated road opponent Michigan State 3-1 last Thursday then wrapped up noncon play Monday with a 4-1 win against American.
The Cavaliers and Terrapins both head now into the home stretches of their respective 2024 campaigns with Virginia looking to get back on the winning track hosting #12 Syracuse then wrapping noncon play hosting Miami OH while Maryland hosts Big Ten rivals #3 Ohio State and #7 Michigan.
