A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect to 6:45 pm Tuesday, July 30, 2024 including the following Washington, DC region jurisdictions.

VIRGINIA: east central Shenandoah, northwestern Warren.

…FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 645 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR EAST CENTRAL SHENANDOAH AND NORTHWESTERN WARREN COUNTIES…

At 452 PM EDT, emergency management reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2.5 and 4.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE…Emergency management reported.

IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Strasburg… Fort Valley…

This includes the following Flood Prone Roads…
Mountain Road near Passage Creek.

Strasburg Road is closed due to flowing water over the roadway. Water has entered some homes on Signal Knob.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
