A Flood Warning is now in effect to 7 am Saturday, August 10, 2024 including the following Washington, DC region jurisdictions.

WEST VIRGINIA: Berkeley.

…FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EDT THIS MORNING…

* WHAT…Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.

* WHERE…A portion of panhandle West Virginia, including the following county, Berkeley.

* WHEN…Until 700 AM EDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS…Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 1209 AM EDT, Gauge reports indicated a steady rise at the Back Creek at Jones Spring to over 11 feet. Between 3 and 8.5 inches of rain have fallen.
– Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
