The James Madison Dukes were again among teams receiving votes in the USA Today college football coaches poll after a hard fought week two win over FCS school Gardner-Webb. The Maryland Terrapins fell out of the polling after week two after being upset at home by Big Ten rival Michigan State.
James Madison received only a single voting point in the coaches poll to barely remain listed among teams receiving votes, tied for an unofficial 48th. The drop-off was not surprising after the Dukes were taken to the limit in a 13-6 win over Gardner-Webb that saw James Madison actually down 6-3 to the FCS squad at the halftime break.
No D.C. area team received votes in the Associated Press poll this week for the second straight week. The only team from the wider D.C./Maryland/Virginia region to receive votes in both polls this week was Liberty. The C-USA’s Flames clocked in tied for an unofficial 36rd in the Associated Press poll and an unofficial 43rd with the coaches.
