The James Madison Dukes received votes in the Associated Press college football poll and garnered further polling support in the USA Today coaches poll this week coming off their upset win over North Carolina while the Navy Midshipmen received votes for the first time this season in both polls after their own upset win over Memphis.
James Madison registered an unofficial 33rd place in the Associated Press voting and an unofficial 35th place in the coaches poll voting after its dominant 70-50 win at North Carolina. The Dukes ran off to 53-21 halftime lead, outscoring the Tar Heels 28-7 in the 2nd quarter then fending off a UNC comeback bid to complete the upset.
The Navy Midshipmen are now in an unofficial 40th place in the Associated Press voting and tied for an unofficial 41st place in the coaches poll voting after their similarly high scoring 56-44 upset of then AP #23 Memphis. Navy went up 49-30 early in the fourth quarter then fended off the Tigers comeback attempt for the win.
Both James Madison & Navy remain undefeated, each at 3-0 on the still young 2024 season and each school better positioned to become a potential contender for an automatic playoff spot.
