The Maryland Terrapins and James Madison Dukes each received votes in the USA Today college football coaches poll today after dominant victories in week 1. Maryland placed in an unofficial tie for 35th there after pulverizing UConn while James Madison is in an unofficial tie for 42nd after its decisive opening win at Charlotte.
No D.C. area team received votes this week in the Associated Press college football poll. The Virginia Tech Hokies who had been an early contender to make it into the official top 25 rankings instead dropped out of both AP and coaches poll voting after their upset loss at Vanderbilt.
The only team from the greater D.C./Maryland/Virginia region to receive votes in both major college football polls this week was the Liberty Flames. The defending Conference USA champions clocked in at an unofficial 34th in the Associated Press poll and tied for an unofficial 35th in the coaches poll.
