Men’s soccer poll: Georgetown falls, Maryland exits top 25

The Georgetown Hoyas barely held on in the men’s college soccer coaches poll this week, falling six spots to 24th place, while Maryland fell out of the top 25 altogether from 10th, now tied for an unofficial 26th place. George Mason checked in at a tie for an unofficial 28th place while James Madison lost voting support in the poll altogether.

Georgetown’s placement dropped after an upset 2-0 loss last Saturday at St. John’s to conclude regular season play while Maryland catapulted straight out of the top 25 with a 3-1 upset loss at Rutgers last Tuesday followed by a 2-1 home loss to #1 Ohio State last Sunday. George Mason concluded its regular season, drawing 0-0 at VCU on Sunday.

The local D.C. area squads now enter conference tournament play with #4 seed Georgetown set to open hosting #5 seed Creighton on Saturday in the Big East quarterfinals, #3 seed Maryland to meet #6 seed UCLA in the Big Ten first round and #1 seed George Mason to host #8 seed La Salle on Friday in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals.
