Navy joins AP top 25, first ranking since 2019

The Navy Midshipmen officially made it into the Associated Press top 25 college football media poll this week in the 25th and final position, the Midshipmen’s first official ranking by AP since the end of the 2019 season. Navy joins fellow service academy Army, also newly ranked at 23rd, together in the AP poll for the first time since 1960.

The Midshipmen, still an undefeated 5-0 after their bye week, did not receive an official ranking in the USA Today coaches poll but garnered enough voting support for an unofficial 28th place. Meanwhile, James Madison regained voting support in the coaches poll at an unofficial 39th after dominating Coastal Carolina 39-7 while Virginia lost support in both polls after falling to Louisville 24-20.

Navy returns to action this week looking to become officially bowl eligible after the aforementioned bye, hosting the Charlotte 49ers in AAC conference action while James Madison is at Georgia Southern this week in Sun Belt action and Virginia hopes to recoup in a tough assignment at ACC opponent Clemson.
