The Navy Midshipmen gained additional voting support this week in both major FBS college football polls off their win over Air Force while James Madison lost its voting support after an upset loss at ULM. Additionally, the Virginia Cavaliers won votes in the coaches poll after their win over Boston College.
Navy improved its positioning to go 5-0 after annihilating fellow service academy Air Force, still not officially ranked in either poll but now clocking in at an unofficial 28th in the Associated Press writers poll and an unofficial 29th in the USA Today coaches poll. The Midshipmen jumped out to a 28-7 halftime lead en route to a 34-7 win.
James Madison though took its first loss of the season and fell out of polling consideration after a stunning upset loss at the ULM Warhawks. The Dukes raised out to a 10-0 lead before ULM took control in the 2nd quarter and edged out JMU 21-19 for the final result, leaving James Madison now 4-1 on the season. JMU will look to rebound Thursday, hosting Coastal Carolina.
While not receiving any votes yet in the Associated Press poll, the Virginia Cavaliers did receive enough support among USA Today voters to garner an unofficial 35th place after defeating Boston College, 24-14 to also go 4-1 on the season. With Navy enjoying an off week this week, Virginia will look to extend its run hosting Louisville.
