The Navy Midshipmen officially dropped out of the top 25 college football rankings this week after their lopsided loss to Notre Dame, falling to an unofficial 29th in the Associated Press writers poll and an unofficial 30th in the USA Today coaches poll. The Midshipmen were throttled 51-14 by now AP #8 Notre Dame.
The Virginia Tech Hokies and James Madison Dukes both starting picking up votes again this week at least from the USA Today poll with Virginia Tech in an unofficial tie for 33rd there and James Madison in an unofficial tie for 36th. Virginia Tech defeated Georgia Tech 21-6 with James Madison over Southern Miss, 32-15, to gain bowl eligibility.
The still 6-1 Navy will look to get back on the winning track as it resumes American conference play this week at Rice while the resurgent 5-3 Virginia Tech squad is at Syracuse and 6-2 James Madison enjoys a late season bye for week 10.
