A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect to 9:15 pm Monday, July 22, 2024 including the following Washington, DC region jurisdictions.

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA: southeastern.
MARYLAND: west central Prince George’s.
VIRGINIA: southeastern Arlington, east central Fairfax, Alexandria.

* Until 915 PM EDT.

* At 824 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Lincolnia, or over Springfield, moving east at 15 mph.

HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE…Radar indicated.

IMPACT…Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.

Arlington, Alexandria, Annandale, Clinton, Springfield, Fort Washington, Groveton, Huntington, Coral Hills, National Harbor, Reagan National Airport, Crystal City, RFK Stadium, Nationals Park, Andrews Air Force Base, Lincolnia, Camp Springs, Franconia, Oxon Hill, and Walker Mill.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature`s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
