A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect to 9 pm Friday, August 2, 2024 including the following Washington, DC region jurisdictions.

MARYLAND: Cecil, Harford, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Caroline.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Delaware
Northeast Maryland
Central and Southern New Jersey
Southeast Pennsylvania
Coastal Waters

* Effective this Friday afternoon and evening from 405 PM until 900 PM EDT.

* Primary threats include…
Isolated damaging wind gusts to 65 mph possible

SUMMARY…Scattered thunderstorms will track across the watch area through the afternoon, posing a risk of locally gusty/damaging winds.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 60 statute miles north and south of a line from 40 miles west southwest of Dover DE to 20 miles north northeast of Lakehurst NJ. For a complete depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline update (WOUS64 KWNS WOU0).

REMEMBER…A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
