A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect to 9 pm Saturday, August 3, 2024 including the following Washington, DC region jurisdictions.

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
MARYLAND: Anne Arundel, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George’s, Carroll, Frederick, Cecil, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Harford, Calvert, Charles, St. Mary’s, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Caroline.
VIRGINIA: Albemarle, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, Greene, King George, Nelson, Orange, Spotsylvania, Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Fairfax City, Falls Church, Manassas, Manassas Park, Culpeper, Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William, Stafford, Madison, Rappahannock.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Southwest Connecticut
District Of Columbia
Delaware
Northeast Maryland
New Jersey
Southeast New York
Southeast Pennsylvania
Northern Virginia
Coastal Waters

* Effective this Saturday afternoon and evening from 120 PM until 900 PM EDT.

* Primary threats include…
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely
Isolated large hail events to 1 inch in diameter possible

SUMMARY…Thunderstorms will continue to increase in coverage and intensity through the afternoon and early evening, posing a risk of locally damaging wind gusts.

REMEMBER…A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
