Virginia Cavaliers reach #2 in women’s soccer poll

 
The undefeated Virginia Cavaliers continue their rise in the women’s college soccer poll, reaching a season high second place after a series of shutout wins while both the Georgetown Hoyas and Virginia Tech Hokies fell out of the top 25 ranking with Virginia Tech failing to receive any votes.

Virginia continued its dominant run this past week winning at VCU 1-0 then dominating Howard 4-0 to officially close out the non-conference part of its schedule at 7-0-0. Virginia is now behind only new conference rival Stanford in the poll. The Cavaliers enter ACC play this week at Miami FL followed by a home game against Wake Forest.

Georgetown and Virginia Tech had rougher goes of it over the past seven days. The Hoyas took a 2-1 home defeat to then #20 ranked Pepperdine for its first loss of the season before recovering to tie then #8 Penn State 0-0. Virginia Tech also suffered its first defeats with a 2-1 home loss to Liberty followed by a 1-0 setback at Northwestern.
