The Virginia Cavaliers remain in fourth place in this week’s college field hockey poll after a set of close wins last weekend while the Maryland Terrapins climbed back upward two spots to sixth place after splitting a pair of games against top ten ranked opposition.
Virginia edged out #12 ranked Syracuse 3-2 in a home shootout win last Friday before closing out non-conference & home regular season play by edging out Miami OH 1-0 last Sunday. The Maryland Terrapins faced much tougher opposition in conference, first falling 2-1 at home to #3 ranked Ohio State on Friday before coming back at home Sunday to jump #7 Michigan 2-0.
The Cavaliers go back up in schedule strength this upcoming week for a Friday matchup at #2 and still undefeated North Carolina while Maryland closes out non-conference with a Friday matchup at #13 Princeton of the Ivy League followed by the Terrapins home finale Sunday against the Atlantic 10’s Richmond.
