The Virginia Cavaliers moved up a spot to 3rd place this week in the latest college field hockey coaches poll despite a decisive loss at undefeated #2 North Carolina while the Maryland Terrapins dropped back a spot to 7th place in the same poll after an out of conference loss at then #15 Princeton.
Virginia’s only game last week was the aforementioned 4-0 rout loss at North Carolina last Friday which kept the Tar Heels undefeated along with #1 Northwestern which also remains unbeaten season. After the Terrapins’ 2-1 loss at Princeton last Friday though, they bounced back to conclude non-conference play with a 3-0 home triumph over Richmond.
The Cavaliers conclude regular season play this week with a Friday outing at unranked Wake Forest while Maryland figures to have a tougher go of it, concluding its regular season Friday at #17 ranked & rival school Penn State.
