Virginia Tech, James Madison rise in men’s soccer poll

The Virginia Tech Hokies rose four places to 13th in the latest men’s college soccer coaches poll while the previously unranked James Madison Dukes vaulted into the poll in 21st place. Last week’s 25th place Georgetown though fell out of the rankings receiving no votes at all. George Mason also received no votes after doing so in previous weeks.

Virginia Tech upgraded in the poll that it had entered the previous week on the strength of a 2-0 win last Friday at Syracuse to open ACC play. James Madison entered the poll coming off its 1-0 home win a week ago Monday over Georgetown and a subsequent 2-0 home win over Liberty, the Dukes’ first wins after three straight ties to open the season.

Georgetown fell off track though, following up its previously mentioned upset 1-0 loss at James Madison with a 2-2 home tie last Saturday to lesser regarded LIU. George Mason’s previous fortune also reversed with the Patriots following up a 1-0 win at UNC Wilmington with a 1-0 loss at Old Dominion, breaking GMU’s previously unblemished 5-0 record.
