The Virginia Tech Hokies are an unofficial 27th place in the new 2024 Associated Press preseason college football poll, just two places away from being officially ranked. Virginia Tech is coming off of a 7-6 season in 2023 including wins in five of its past seven games and is widely expected to further improve this year.
Liberty was the only other team from the region to receive votes in the AP poll, coming in at the unofficial 31st spot. The coaches poll released one week ago saw Virginia Tech (28th), Liberty (t35th), Maryland (t41st) & James Madison (t51st) all get votes.
Georgia came in first to lead the Associated Press preseason poll followed by Ohio State, Oregon, Texas and Alabama reflecting a college football landscape now dominated by the new look SEC and Big Ten conferences. Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan and Florida State closed out the top ten.
