The Virginia Cavaliers again remain undefeated and in 3rd place for the third straight week in the new college field hockey coaches poll, now at 7-0, while the Maryland Terrapins went back up two spots to 5th place in the poll after a successful opening to Big Ten conference play.
The Cavaliers continued their undefeated run into the official start of ACC conference play, defeating new ACC member California 4-3 last Friday before romping over fellow new member Stanford 5-1 on Sunday. Maryland enjoyed a single game this past week to open in the Big Ten, defeating Rutgers 3-2 at home last Friday.
Virginia continues conference play this week, looking to extend its unbeaten run at Duke before going back non-conference to host William & Mary. The 5-2 Maryland will meanwhile go on the road this weekend for a set of games at Big Ten rivals Indiana and #7 ranked Iowa.
