The Virginia Cavaliers again remain undefeated and in 3rd place in the new college field hockey coaches poll released this week at 5-0 while the Maryland Terrapins fell off another two spots to seventh place after taking their second loss of the season, this one to the aforementioned Virginia.
The Virginia Cavaliers defeated then #5 Maryland in College Park last Friday before going on to defeat fellow local school American 3-2 on Sunday in a closer than expected overtime game, also in College Park. The Maryland Terrapins meanwhile bounced back from their loss to Virginia by thrashing Lock Haven 8-1 last Sunday.
Virginia will now start ACC conference play with a series of games against new in-conference opponents California and Stanford at home this upcoming weekend while Maryland will also open in-conference play in its Big Ten conference, hosting the #13 ranked Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Friday.
