The Virginia Cavaliers took a sharp tumble in the women’s college soccer coaches poll this week, falling twelve spots to 14th after losing their first game of the season. Georgetown received votes again this week to place in an unofficial 27th while Virginia Tech is back to getting votes in an unofficial tie for 30th.
Virginia’s previous dominant run in play came to a screeching halt last Sunday with a 3-0 home trouncing to Wake Forest in the Cavaliers second game of ACC conference play. UVA had more success in its first conference game three days earlier, scoring a 3-1 win at Miami FL to stretch its then undefeated record to 8-0.
Georgetown and Virginia Tech both had better goes of it this week among teams receiving votes. Georgetown started the week last Thursday tying South Carolina on the road 2-2 then winning at Princeton 1-0 on Sunday while Virginia Tech scored a 2-1 home win over Clemson and a road win 1-0 over Syracuse in the Hokies opening week of ACC play.
