A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect to 7 am Saturday, November 23, 2024 including the following Washington, DC region jurisdictions.

MARYLAND: Garrett.

Excerpted from the National Weather Service:

…WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST THIS MORNING…

* WHAT…Heavy wet snow. Additional snow accumulations up to one inch. Light ice accumulation in high valley locations up to a few one hundredths of an inch. Winds gusting up to 30 mph.

* WHERE…Garrett County.

* WHEN…Until 7 AM EST this morning.

* IMPACTS…Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Plan on slippery road conditions.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.

* WHAT…Heavy mixed precipitation. Additional snow accumulations up to one inch and ice accumulations around a light glaze. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE…Western Highland County.

* WHEN…Until 7 AM EST this morning.

* IMPACTS…Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages.
